About the business

Pride.Deals is a leading LGBTQ+ digital magazine and community. What started out in 2019 to provide quality inclusive fashion and Pride merchandise is now packed with the latest Pride news, product reviews, entertainment, deals and guidance.

Required work

Business was currently an e-commerce store hosted on Shopify with the brand name “Joshua Lloyd”. The Store had over 1,000 product, collections, and landing pages related to merchandise. A new website was required to reflect a digital magazine with all relevant content including blogs, news, and guidance with post collections instead of product collections.

The business was to remain in the name “Joshua Lloyd” however clearly highlight the new acquisition by “Pride.Deals” which was to be redirected to the core domain as this had the highest domain authority and 4+ years of work and content.

500+ ranking pages needed to be redirected to the new website with high quality SEO carried out throughout to ensure the business did not lose Google search rankings and relevant traffic.

The business also had an email database along with SMS and push notification integrations. In addition the website consisted of numerous Shopify apps installed that would need to be replicated on the new website.

A seamless transition was required as the website had significant traffic in place and bounce rates had to be minimised.

What we did

We created a bespoke WordPress website that consisted of 100+ pages to reflect the content already existing on the Shopify store.

SEO optimisation was carried out on all pages to ensure highest possible ranking, with existing content used and upgraded to ensure a seamless transition for website visitors. All current blogs, news, and guidance was transferred to a new bespoke blog template the welcomed an upgrade to the standard Shopify blog editor.

We created categories for each product collection category existing in the Shopify store with updated and optimised content to reflect the new content that would be generated on the magazine website.

Once all pages were created, we created a redirection list and highlighted where each individual page including all 1,000+ product pages should be redirected to on the new website as the business would no longer be selling products on their website.

The domain was transferred to a fast and secure server managed by lancs.digital for the WordPress website and made live. We also connected the clients email database and created new integrations to replace the Shopify apps to save the businesses over £300 p/m with custom built plugins.

We monitored traffic, pages, and visitor use of the website for the following weeks to ensure that the transition was smooth and didn’t impact the quality, search rankings, and site speed.

Our results

Since transferring the Shopify store to WordPress the businesses has maintained all page 1 search ranking for their collections, blogs, news, and guidance with an increase of 26% in average position in Google search for target keywords monitored before the switch.

Email deliverability has increased by 13% since migrating the email and SMS marketing to a new Email Service Provider (ESP) with new automations created for the client to increase audience retention and web traffic.

All products that were originally listed on the Shopify store were redirected to relatable collection pages on the new website which welcome an increase in traffic by up to 21% for top ranking pages.

We have since carried out keyword research and continued working with the client to offer high quality optimised content with Google page 1 results for over 75% of targeted keywords.

What our client says

Migrating from a Shopify store with over 4 years of work felt very daunting and I didn’t know where to start. Just the thought of making such a change made me worried that I would massively impact the business negatively.

I first reached out to Lancs Digital in July 2023 for help on this project and they were on hand to offer free guidance on what was needed to make the switch successfully. Their knowledge and confidence made me realise that they would be best suited to carry out the move as I really didn’t want to throw years of hard work out of the window.

The team worked with me and created a new website better than I could have ever imagined and kept me up to date throughout the process and took onboard any highlights that I made. I’ve worked with many agencies throughout the years and nothing compares to lancs.digital. I look forward to working with them as our marketing agency moving forward.
